Registration of Marriages

Required Documents

1. One of the parties to the marriage, who should be a Sri Lankan citizen, should give “Notice of Marriage” to the Consulate  
2. Declaration by Bridegroom  
3. Declaration by Bride. If it is Muslim Marriage Declaration by Wali  
4. No objection letter of Bride and Bride groom’s parents for the marriage. 
5. Copies of passports and Iqamas/visas of bride, bridegroom, wali (if it is Muslim Marriage), witnesses and person who are conducting the marriage 
6. Copy of original of Birth Certificate of Sri Lankan Nationals should be produced. 

If any one foreign national who is the party to the marriage should produce:

• A valid Bachelor Certificate from the competent authority of the relevant country and the document should be attested by relevant Embassy of Sri Lanka.
• The concurrence of the registrar General of Sri Lanka to conduct the marriage which can be obtained by forwarding following documents to the Registrar General via email to: rgd.civil@gmail.com

• Police clearance certificate from the competent authority of the relevant country and the document should be attested by relevant Embassy of Sri Lanka.
• Request letter including names of both parties, date of registration, place of registration.

Additional Information

• The marriage can be registered in the Consulate after the lapse of fourteen (14) days from the receipt of the Notice of Marriage but within three (03) months from such date.
• Persons to be present at the time of marriage registration at the Consulate:
  • Bridegroom and a witness from his side with their respective passports and Iqamas/visas
  • Wali and a witness from his side with their respective passports and Iqamas/visas
  • Person conducting/conducted the marriage with their respective passports

Applicable Fees:

• Registration of Marriage – SAR 180
• Notice of Marriage (General Marriage/ Kandyan) SAR 115
• Additional certified copies of marriage – SAR 85
